The Canadian artist Ken Flynn has created a 125 page graphic novel about his grandfather, José Pires, and his journey of immigrating to Canada from the Azores.

The Average José: An Immigration Story, combines cartoon art, realistic sketches, and film photography to illustrate the hardships José experienced while starting a life in a new place without any money, a job, or knowledge of the English language, while also capturing how he persevered through it all with integrity and grace.

The Average José can be purchased via one of the following outlets:
FriesenPress
Amazon
Indigo
And as an ebook:
FriesenPress
Itunes
Google Play
Kindle
